The other night he had sort of grumpily *or maybe jokingly, I don't know* said that only materialism makes me happy. I don't know what to make of that statement. Sure, I find non-living things much more reassuring since they won't talk and won't change and won't be suddenly judgmental or make you wonder if you're bothering them with your talk. No doubt that money does have a big hand in helping one attain happiness, but I'd say it's how you use it that matters.
Anyway, contrary to popular belief that I hug my shoes to sleep and have good dreams, here's what makes me happy... (in random manner)
1. Walking alone, browsing stores alone.
Yes, I love my 'me time'. Sure, outings with friends are fun, but giving time for yourself is also important. No one's around to tell you where you should go or where you shouldn't go, talking about stuff you care or don't care about. The time spent while walking alone is just precious. All the time for you to just be silent and watch the world around you pass by. Total bliss.
Note: Being alone in a deserted place is too creepy for me to handle. For now.
2. Helping out.
There's the sense of achievement, and then there's the thought even if you're really screwed up you'd make someone's life less screwed up and that makes you maybe a bit less screwed up in the grand scheme of things. Finally, it's because you're doing something not for yourself. The result is pretty much priceless.
3. Zoning out in front of a camera. Wearing my favourite lip colour/ outfit. Vanity issues...
Note: I'm finally wearing my Revlon coral lipstick!!! AND LOVING IT!!!
Girls have a tendency to be negative to their ownselves. Not pretty enough, not smart enough, not slim enough. The list goes on. But occasionally, when vanity hits, well at least even for a few minutes, let everything go. Who cares if it's not nice enough? And that's the moment when I'm happy.
Maybe because I'm kinda antisocial, I value my conversations. Sometimes, I play it over and over again in my head the things he's just said or bff Yi Xin's just said (she says some really surprising stuff sometimes). But yes I shun away from conversations where it goes like this..
Me: Hi :)
A: How are you?
Me: Good. You?
Me: Erm... ERM.... (ok damn how do I continue?).. Oh yea, so what's up for the holidays?
A: *another short answer*
Me: (i'm stumped.)
A: hey.. x)
(conversation goes pretty well)
Me: So. what's next? / Yea, I know right! It's perfect for you! / What's your choice? (just when you excitedly reply..)
A: (gone MIA)
Me: (anyone there???!)
I can't do this. I really can't do this anymore. It's horrifying.
5. Scoring the perfect bargain.
For instance, the furry love you see above. Shopaholics would know. It's caught your eye, it's the right one, it's got a really nice price tag, you get it and it's all yours!
6. Finishing a good book or watched a good movie.
How do I define a good book or movie? Somehow I like those sad-happy endings. Or it has a really unexpected twist. Mostly touching ones. Ones that's got more meaning behind one scene or one sentence. One of my memorable ones: (books) The Time Traveler's Wife, A Case of Exploding Mangoes, A Thousand Splendid Suns, House Rules (movies) Gran Torino, Sixth Sense, The Bucket List, The Boy in Striped Pyjamas
7. Eating it out.
I don't stick to my exercise regime. I eat less sometimes. Sometimes I eat A LOT. Like, really A LOT. Sometimes I regret about it. The others times that I don't, wow that's rare. Good food should be eaten with a hearty mind. :D
8. Him. No distractions.
Cheesy as this may sound, he's irreplaceable. Currently anyway. Who else's gonna stand me chattering late into night about all random stuff and insecurities and whatnot. And actually like accompanying me to shop *although I doubt this will last as long*
9. Completing something of importance.
Again. Sense of achievement here!! Picture above doesn't really relate but I like it anyway. :D
I feel like I've left out some... But that's all I could think of right now.
